Saturday March 13 started out with me having an early full Irish breakfast at Trinity Hall at Mockingbird Station with Lawanna, Mark and several others from the 17th Society. Next time, Light Breakfast would be plenty. The food was yummy and consisted of - scrambled eggs, french fries, 2 bangers (sausages), slice of ham, toast, and pork and beans. And no, I didn't eat it all.
Next we took DART from Mockingbird Station to Park Lane station and started walking south on Greenville Ave to where the float would be staged for the parade.
Usually I am standing on the curb, but it was fun to be on the float this time for the 31st Annual Greenville St Patrick's Day parade. I was on the Alice in Wonderland themed float sponsored by 17th Society. We had the Mad Hatter (aka Mayor of Greenville Ave, Mark, http://www.socialmayors.com/), Cheshire cat, Alice and another lady dressed up. The rest of use wore green and jeans.
There were a lot of us on the float itself with some "walkers" next to it. We enjoyed throwing beads. The closer we got to Yale Blvd, the louder the crowds got, but it was all in good fun. I saw at least two middle-age men go wild and lift their shirts for beads, LOL. A couple of light dings on the head from beads about to be thrown out of the float while leaning down to get beads off of the float floor.
People were throwing stuff at us (not maliciously) like Jello shots, plain flour tortillas, some non-green beads, and my personal favorite - a fabulous looking donut with green and white sprinkles! I saw it on the floor of the float and took a picture of it with Lawanna's camera. Lawanna got some great shots as I didn't take my camera. So when I get them I will pass them along.
I don't know if we were on the news or not, but on the float I was between Mark the Mad Hatter and Lawanna. Since we were float #18 out of 100+ we finished around noon then headed to the Block Party on Lower Greenville. Was not too crowded yet when we paid our $8 cover fee to get in. Wow I saw the Terilli's building, and it was sad to see it like that. Over to Stan's Blue Note we headed. Stayed there for 2 beers, then worked our way over to the Dubliner. Very crowded outside by now, so Lawanna and I decided to leave. Right outside the Block Party we waited a few minutes for the free city bus (used for shuttling) to take us back to Mockingbird Station where my chariot awaited me.
Here are pictures I found on the net in a www.dallasnews.com article. Picture 11 is a woman from the 17th Society, with the float in the background. http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/pt/slideshows/2010/03/pho_031310_stpatparade/
