Well I finally made it out to Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite http://www.devilsbowl.com/ for some short track Saturday night racin'. Patti, Steve, Pac, his brother-in-law, Brian, Brian's two kids: Corey and Kaitlin and yours truly met there 7pmish with races started at 8pm.
Patti wore her Kurt Busch tee; Steve wore a Viagra tee (in honor of Mark Martin, Steve?); and I wore my vintage-like red Carl Edwards tee. Pac just ordered 2 Tony Stewart tees so next time he has a NASCAR shirt to wear. If Denise (Dale Jr) and Ricky(Jimmie Johnson) had come we would have represented all different NASCAR Cup drivers.
We had a great time!! Kaitlin and I want to go back for sure as well as Patti and Steve...Kaitlin even bought herself a "Winged and Dangerous" tee. Cost $10 for adults to get in, $5 for kids. We could have paid $2 more for the reserved seats which were really seats, but we went old skool and sat in the bleachers. Beware there are no rails in the middle of the bleachers to help you get up and down. As the night went on, oh man, my arse was killing me. Thank you Patti for sharing your seat cushion with me!
And I almost could have used some ear plugs. Wow, some of those cars were loud. Speaking of ears, it must have been "Bring Your Baby Night". You'll see what I mean when you view the web album.
Our vote for favorite driver name goes to : Jack Hammer Jr
Dale Jr had recommended "Get Back to Dirt" on Dave Despain's tv show. He ordered the dvd. Liked it so much he ordered 14 more to give to friends. I saw it when it aired on Speedtv shortly thereafter. It is a documentary about one race season at Devil's Bowl. It's got your redneck wind chimes, missin' teeth, a philosopher, one man coveting another man's wife, and at least one mullet. I even bought a "Get Back to Dirt" tee, but didn't wear it tonight.
During driver introductions tonight the guy in black on the far right is named Travis. For some reason that set off a bell. I think he was in the documentary. I am thinking he was the guy that won a race, but had some illegal parts he didn't know about, thanks to his mechanic, and got busted. I will double-check that by perusing the dvd. http://www.getbacktodirt.com/
