"The Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade began in 1979, when a group of Lower Greenville merchants and restaurants organized a St. Patrick’s Day block party and festival in the area. Over the years, Greenville Avenue has garnered a reputation as a venue for a rousing St. Paddy’s celebration with exuberant revelers. The 29th annual parade, produced by the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association and the Dallas Observer, is set to attract thousands with its variety of floats as well as colorfully attired participants proceeding along a route of about two miles. Arrive early to stake out a good spot, and after you’ve had your fill of the big street party, head over to the after-party (for ages 21 and older only), featuring live music by the charismatic Austin electro-rock band Ghostland Observatory. I got there about 10:15am, since I live right by where it is. Start time was 11am, and it completed at 12:30pm. Note to self: next time wear sunscreen! I got some sun and more on the right side.
