Texas Democrat Primary

Wow on the turnout for the Precinct Convention aka caucus!!! First of all let me say I almost always vote in elections especially city mayor level and up, but this is my first primary along with probably most people tonight.

I voted on my way to work as usual. When I got back to my voting poll precinct at 7:20pm there were still some people voting. So the Precinct District Convention started after the polls were closed. Temporary Chairman said last election there were about 5 people in the Precinct District convention. There were about 175 or so tonight. I signed my name on the list, and stated who I voted for, and left at 9pm.
I was only about 1/3 of the way to my car when I had to go back. When I say I had to go back, it just felt like I should check this delegate thing out. I was voted in to be an alternate delegate representing our precinct in the Senatorial District Convention in Dallas later this month. At 10pm I was truly on my way home. As I was heading out the door another lady said she did the same as me, headed to her car and felt like she needed to come back. I believe she was voted in to be a delegate representing our precinct in the Senatorial District Convention.

The Texas Democratic Party has a three-level convention system:
Level 1. Precinct Conventions
Level 2. County Conventions (or Senatorial District Conventions in urban areas)
Level 3. State Convention
