my home computer

My home desktop computer has been really slow again. Took it to Geek Squad March of last year. I don't want to spend anymore money on it. I am finally considering a laptop, but am checking with those I know that have one. My cousin, Pac, likes his Gateway laptop and Vista operating system. He says Vista is really helpful for families as you can limit what children can do on the internet. My aunt, Denise, just bought a Gateway laptop, so I'll ask her too. Last but not least my sister, Tara, just got a Dell laptop, also. My AT&T modem is a wireless, BUT I need to see if it's Vista compatible.

Only issue with a laptop that I'm aware of, if it ever needs any repair work it has to be mailed off for a couple of weeks. That is how Pac thinks he got his identity stolen when he sent his old laptop off for repair. http://www.lifelock.com/ Where the president of the company gives out his Social Security number in the tv commercials. Lifelock also sponsored a NASCAR cup race in the 2007 season!! That was the first time I had ever heard of them. Pac now subscribes to their services for like $99 a year.

Another tip between talking to my cousin and some guys at work: before you get rid of your old computer it's a good idea to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system. You don't want to leave anything on your computer for hackers to find and use against you later like your identity, passwords, credit card numbers, etc.
