I don't recall how many years ago I decided to start this, but usually on the first day of every month I throw my toothbrush out and start using a new one. Ok you don't have to throw it out, you could save them under the sink for scrubbing duty. What does it cost a buck fifty or something like that? Back in the day, I used a toothbrush until the bristles flared out. I would get a new one at the dentist office and try to remember and start using that one is 3 months, half way between my 6 month appointments. They didn't work out too well. It just seems healthier and easier to change that puppy out once a month. Especially if you've been sick, change out that toothbrush once you feel better. Couldn't hurt, is the way I see it.
Right now I'm using Tom's Natural toothpaste. You can get it at Super Walmart and Whole Foods. Guess where it's cheaper, heehee? I bought a travel size of Tom's Toothpaste at a Super Walmart for 99 cents. Well I used it all up at home. So the next time I was at Central Market I looked. Sure enough they had the travel size of Tom's for double the price, $1.98!! Didn't buy it there, needless to say. I remember years ago asking my mom's mother, Mums, " what did y'all use to brush your teeth with before toothpaste?". She said baking soda. So remember if you run out of toothpaste before you can get to the store you probably have some baking soda in the pantry.
Another hot tip: if you're without toothbrush and toothpaste you can always pour some salt into the palm of your hand, wet your index finger, dip yor finger in the salt, and start brushin'.
