I know my blood type because years ago I tried to donate blood to the then Wadley Blood Center. They sent me a card denoting my blood type, A+. I seem to have had a hard time recovering from donating a pint. Back in the early 1980s I tried and thought I would pass out. They put a cold rag on my neck and gave me an 8oz can of Shasta cola (we didn't have those tiny cans here until a few years ago. The personnel said the sodas came by way of Louisiana. ). They didn't take the needle out until they had a pint. Then it took me about an hour before I could get up and move. Now that time might have been my fault, didn't know you should eat a meal within 4 hours before you donate.
So I want to give it a try again (eating a good meal beforehand) to see if I can do it. By doing that yourself, you and your family will get a discount on blood if needed within a year of when you donated.

"Carter BloodCare's Life Plan
Without donors like you, the blood supply would be nonexistent. That's why Carter BloodCare created the Life Plan to reward donors. When you give blood with us, you are automatically enrolled in the Life Plan. That means that if you or an immediate family member require blood transfusions within 12 months of your donation, you or they will receive financial assistance toward uninsured blood product fees. Just one more way Carter BloodCare is caring for North Central and East Texans."
