Before I moved to FL in December 1999 I had culled through alot of my books and sold them at Half Price Books store http://www.halfpricebooks.com/. Once I started unpacking there were a few more I didn't want with no HPB or anything similar in site. So I swung by the public library and put them through the Book Depository shoot.
Last time or two I've taken some paperback books to HPB they wanted to give me like 25 cents a book. So I snatched them back, drove up the street to my local public library branch, and put them through the shoot.
Saturday I skipped HPB all together and went straight to the library. I had some paperbacks and a Vanity Fair magazine. I went inside because they were open. They happily took them and even asked if I wanted a receipt which I declined. When I donate to Goodwill I usually don't get a receipt as I feel what I give isn't worth that much. Now when I donate $ to a charity, I always deduct that off my income taxes.
So moral of this story, when you want to donate books, magazines, VHS movies, DVDs or Cds don't forget you can donate to your local public library.
