I have my on-line banking setup with alerts. One of the alerts is any transaction made over the phone, on the internet, or by mail I get an email containing To, Account, Transaction Date, Amount, and Merchant.
Wednesday night I received an alert stating I had a 21 cent pending charge to my bank account from Adele Services in Melville NY. I knew I hadn't charged no 21 cents to nobody (double negatives on purpose for fun).
Thursday a.m. I rang up the bank immediately. She said to wait and see if it does charge to my account the next day.
Friday I didn't see it, but went ahead and had bank cancel my check card and issue a new one with new account number, takes 5-7 business days to receive the new one. Oh and I asked when was the last time I changed account numbers on my debit card - May 2000. Dang, you know for me it might be a good thing to get a new debit card account number more often than once every 8.5 years since I do buy on the internet.
Saturday after I got electrical power back in my apt building at 2pm after it went out at 7:30am , thought I would jump on-line and check my account. Sure enough the 21 cents was charged to my account. I guess I was too bleary eyed Friday a.m. to see it. Adele Services Melville NY 800-764-8104 for pet services - pet food. As you may know in the way of pets I have Maxx, the betta fish, and I don't have/want to order his food over the net.
I quickly called da' bank. She said to first call the number that was on the description of the transaction. If I cannot get it settled with the merchant then call the bank back. I did call that 800 number, and of course it was no longer in service. I then Googled 800-764-8104. Check it out people: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-800-764-8104/2
So contacted the bank yet again. Funny the lady said "WOW" and I said "what you do mean by that?" as we're looking into my account I thought she found something else. I got the feeling she was like 21 cents is that why she called?! Then I told her "they" do these tiny amounts first to see where they get hits. Then they may come back and hit the account for big amounts. Surely she knows this right, right?
The bank will credit the amount and investigate the complaint. So if you have on-line banking or you get paper statements be sure to look at it closely.
